The much-anticipated job fair “UNICDA Conecta” is back, offering students and graduates the opportunity to discover multiple job offers, expand their network of contacts, and enjoy a schedule of talks focused on the development of their professional skills.

UNICDA Alumni Launch

As part of the celebration of its 21st Regular Graduation, the Universidad Domínico Americano (UNICDA) enthusiastically celebrated the relaunch of its Alumni Unit, which will now be called UNICDA Alumni. The goal is to strengthen the ties between the university and its graduates, offering networking opportunities, collaboration, and recognition to outstanding alumni.

Additionally, through the UNICDA CONECTA platform, the connection with the job market will be facilitated, offering a job board, preparation workshops, and key resources for professional development. Erasmo Taveras, UNICDA’s Coordinator of Student Life, presented the objectives, activities, and benefits that our university’s alumni network will now have. This includes the UNICDA CONECTA platform, which will facilitate the connection between alumni and the job market, offering a job board, preparation workshops, and key resources for professional development.

As part of UNICDA ALUMNI, graduates will have access to exclusive discounts on continuing education programs, English courses, postgraduate courses, and more. They will also be able to participate in events, conferences, and seminars to foster mutual learning and collaboration.

Talk on Breast Cancer Prevention

In a day of awareness and education, Dr. Melissa Rodríguez, a renowned oncologic surgeon, delivered a talk on breast cancer prevention to teachers and students of the Madre Teresa Corletto School.

During her intervention, Dr. Rodríguez emphasized the importance of regular medical check-ups, reminding that early detection is crucial to increasing the chances of recovery. Although breast cancer mainly affects women, the specialist stressed that men can also be diagnosed, so it is essential to stay alert.

Additionally, Dr. Rodríguez shared tips on how to improve lifestyle, advocating for healthy eating, regular physical activity, adequate hydration, and the importance of good rest.

The talk concluded with a call to action: “Let’s take care of ourselves and support everyone’s health!” This activity highlights the educational community’s commitment to promoting healthy habits and disease prevention.

UNICDA Celebrates its 21st Regular Graduation

The Universidad Domínico Americano (UNICDA) held its 21st Regular Graduation with great excitement, a significant event marking the end of a fundamental stage in the lives of its graduates and the beginning of a promising path towards the future. The ceremony took place at the Patrick N. Hughson Auditorium of the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano, where graduates, families, teachers, and administrative staff gathered to commemorate this important academic achievement.

Ing. Ramón Sosa, Rector of UNICDA, led the 21st Regular Graduation, highlighting the importance of continuous learning as the beginning of new opportunities. He celebrated the end of a stage for the graduates, acknowledging the vital support of families and teachers. Sosa encouraged the graduates to be agents of change, to turn challenges into opportunities, and to set ambitious goals using modern tools like artificial intelligence, with a critical approach. He concluded by emphasizing that progress must go hand in hand with moral values and a commitment to society, promoting a holistic view of professional success.

The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Francisco Ramírez, Executive Director of the Instituto Nacional de Formación y Capacitación del Magisterio (Inafocam). Ramírez extended his sincere congratulations to the graduates, reminding them that despite the challenges they have faced, they are fortunate to be at this point in their lives. He shared his own experience from 35 years ago, highlighting that although the journey has been difficult, perseverance and a spirit of change are essential for success. He thanked the university authorities and faculty for their crucial role in the development of the graduates, providing them with the necessary tools to achieve success. During his speech, he shared five key lessons for the future: do not fear failure, continue studying, seek excellence instead of success, believe in oneself, and value human connections. He concluded by motivating the graduates to maintain their authenticity and to step into the world with confidence and determination, reminding them that the future belongs to them.

Aire Metzli Lorenzo, a student of the Bachelor’s Degree in English with a focus on Teaching and the highest academic honor student, spoke on behalf of the class of 2024, offering a motivational message about perseverance and the importance of effort and dedication. She reflected on the profound meaning of graduation, seeing it not only as the attainment of a degree but as a threshold to new possibilities and challenges. She emphasized the importance of basing our words on verifiable data, stressing that truth is founded on facts.

The diploma award ceremony was a highlight of the event, honoring the effort and dedication of the graduates, as well as recognizing with special distinctions those who achieved outstanding academic performance. These distinctions were presented by Mrs. Mari Carmen Orizondo, representing the Board of Directors of the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano. Also present were other members of the ICDA Board of Directors: Ing. Edwin Salazar, Director of Registry and liaison with the Rector’s Office for academic affairs; Lic. María Alejandra Brunet, MA, Coordinator of General Studies; Lic. Ligia Henríquez, MA, Coordinator of the School of Education; Ing. Paola Martínez, MA, Coordinator of the School of Systems and Software Engineering; and Dr. Alexandra García, Coordinator of the Postgraduate Unit in Education.

The celebration culminated with an exciting performance by the UNICDA Mixed Choir, which closed the night with the rendition of the university anthem “UNICDA Eterna.”

The Universidad Domínico Americano is proud of its graduates and looks forward to the valuable contributions they will make in their respective professional fields and in society. Visit from MESCYT to follow up on the Improvement Plan of the 2019-2024 Five-Year Evaluation of UNICDA

The Universidad Domínico Americano (UNICDA) received a visit from delegates of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (MESCyT) as part of the first cycle of follow-up visits for the Improvement Plan of the Five-Year Evaluation. This program aims to verify the compliance of higher education institutions (IES) with established quality standards.

The meeting included participation from MESCyT representatives, including Mr. Juan Francisco Viloria Santos, Deputy Minister of Evaluation and Accreditation of IES; Mrs. Lourdes Concepción, head of the Five-Year Evaluation department; and Mr. Juan de la Cruz, technical head of evaluation and accreditation. They were welcomed by the Institutional Self-Evaluation Committee, led by our rector, Engineer Ramón Sosa. Deputy Minister Viloria emphasized the importance of these visits to obtain a real picture of the quality level of each institution in the eight dimensions being evaluated.

The Five-Year Evaluation is a process carried out every five years to examine the institutional conditions of IES, ensuring their compliance with established quality criteria. This follow-up is essential to identify improvement opportunities in the university’s internal management. This process reaffirms the institution’s commitment to continuous improvement and the training of highly skilled professionals.

They inaugurate the art exhibition ‘Diaspora’ at the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano

On October 10, the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano (ICDA) opened its exhibition hall for “Diáspora,” an art exhibit featuring 14 Latin American visual artists. The show aims to create an artistic dialogue with the public, exploring themes related to cultural encounters, the challenges of emigration, and the guiding lights for those seeking new opportunities in host cities.

Artists such as Rebeca Flores, Monique Johnson, Humberto Grullón, Ramón Santiago, Luis Cepeda, Raphael Díaz, Vladimir Sosa, Nilton Cárdenas, Rafael Trinidad, Pablo Mijares, Julia Castillo, Amalia González, Salvador Sánchez, and Ángel Cajigas Arbelo joined forces to reflect deeply on diversity, identity, and the continuous search for meaning in a migration context.

The ICDA thanks the Centro Cultural Perelló for its collaboration in this new edition of the exhibition, as well as all the attendees who participated in the inauguration. “Diáspora” will be open to the public until November 15, 2024, in the exhibition hall of the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano.

At an emotional event, the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in the Dominican Republic, Patricia Aguilera, formally introduced a group of talented artists and their impactful works as part of the cultural project ‘Histories that Unite Us: Let the Liberty Bell Ring.’

The event, held in an atmosphere of celebration and reflection, brought together various artists and notable personalities. During the presentation, it was explored how art becomes a powerful medium to promote unity, freedom, and democratic values essential for the development and strengthening of society.

This exhibition not only invites aesthetic appreciation but also introspection and dialogue about the values that connect us as human beings. The public still has time to enjoy these extraordinary works being exhibited at the Plaza del Estudiante, located at the main headquarters of the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano on Abraham Lincoln Avenue.

The Universidad Domínico Americana (UNICDA) had the privilege of hosting José Abreu Durán, a distinguished graduate of the Bachelor’s in Business Administration, during a special event that brought together students and professionals. With over 15 years of experience in business management, José has dedicated his career to supporting small businesses, becoming a true benchmark of success and commitment.

His talk not only highlighted his professional journey but also his altruistic work in vulnerable communities, where his focus on improvement and development has made a significant difference, inspiring attendees to follow in his footsteps in pursuit of their own goals.

The event was moderated by Licda. Alejandra Brunet, academic coordinator of UNICDA, who was joined by other notable academic coordinators such as Licdo. Felipe Francisco, Eng. Paola Martínez, Dr. Alexandra García, and Dr. Martha Campusano. Also in attendance were Eng. Edwin Salazar and Dr. Vilma Gerardo, Lic. Erasmo Taveras, and Lic. Karina Taveras, as well as members of AIESEC, including their president Nicolay Atocha, executive Yoselin Santiago, and the founding partner of FEL, Francisco Calderón.

Engineering Students Plant a Green Legacy in Monte Plata

On September 28, our engineering students participated in a meaningful volunteer event in Monte Plata, where they came together to plant a green legacy. This event, in collaboration with the Dominican American University and UNICDA Sustainable, provided each participant with an unforgettable experience focused on supporting and preserving the environment.

The students demonstrated their commitment and dedication, working together to create a positive impact on the community and the natural surroundings. We thank all the volunteers who made this activity possible, reaffirming our institution’s commitment to sustainability and caring for the planet.
