Forum of the National Network of Dominican Universities (RAUDO)
The Dominico Americano University (UNICDA) participated in the forum organized by the National Network of Dominican Universities (RAUDO), titled “Urban Resilience: Transforming Risks into Opportunities,” held at the Iberoamerican University (UNIBE). The event brought together various Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), members of RAUDO, along with their students, who actively participated in discussions about the challenges and solutions to urban risks.
Representing UNICDA, students from the Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality and Tourism participated, having the opportunity to learn from experts on urban resilience and sustainability, key areas for the training of future professionals in the sector.
During the forum, distinguished speakers such as Eng. Osiris de León, Arch. Omar Rancier, and Dr. Arcelia Valenzuela provided valuable perspectives on risk management, disaster prevention, and adaptation to the effects of climate change. The experts discussed the sustainable solutions needed to address these challenges, emphasizing the vulnerability of the Dominican Republic to natural phenomena such as hurricanes, floods, and droughts.
The forum also featured the presence of important government entities such as the Climate Change Council, MARENA (Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources), and Public Health, who shared their approaches and strategies to mitigate the effects of climate change and promote resilience in our urban communities.
This event provided an invaluable space for the exchange of ideas and experiences among students, professionals, and experts in the field, allowing participants to identify opportunities to transform urban risks into sustainable solutions. Through these discussions, a path was outlined towards a safer and more resilient future, where everyone can contribute to the common good and the preservation of our natural resources.
