The life of a professional graduate from UNICDA

The Universidad Domínico Americana (UNICDA) had the privilege of hosting José Abreu Durán, a distinguished graduate of the Bachelor’s in Business Administration, during a special event that brought together students and professionals. With over 15 years of experience in business management, José has dedicated his career to supporting small businesses, becoming a true benchmark of success and commitment.

His talk not only highlighted his professional journey but also his altruistic work in vulnerable communities, where his focus on improvement and development has made a significant difference, inspiring attendees to follow in his footsteps in pursuit of their own goals.

The event was moderated by Licda. Alejandra Brunet, academic coordinator of UNICDA, who was joined by other notable academic coordinators such as Licdo. Felipe Francisco, Eng. Paola Martínez, Dr. Alexandra García, and Dr. Martha Campusano. Also in attendance were Eng. Edwin Salazar and Dr. Vilma Gerardo, Lic. Erasmo Taveras, and Lic. Karina Taveras, as well as members of AIESEC, including their president Nicolay Atocha, executive Yoselin Santiago, and the founding partner of FEL, Francisco Calderón.

We thank everyone present for their participation and for making this event a valuable space for learning and growth. José Abreu’s story is a reminder that, with dedication and passion, it is possible to make a difference both professionally and socially.

Engineering Students Plant a Green Legacy in Monte Plata

On September 28, our engineering students participated in a meaningful volunteer event in Monte Plata, where they came together to plant a green legacy. This event, in collaboration with the Dominican American University and UNICDA Sustainable, provided each participant with an unforgettable experience focused on supporting and preserving the environment.

The students demonstrated their commitment and dedication, working together to create a positive impact on the community and the natural surroundings. We thank all the volunteers who made this activity possible, reaffirming our institution’s commitment to sustainability and caring for the planet.

Women’s Robotics Bootcamp in the Dominican Republic

The United States Embassy in Santo Domingo, in collaboration with the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano (ICDA), successfully conducted a Women’s Robotics Bootcamp, bringing together 56 university students and 15 teachers. This event focused on promoting the inclusion of women in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).

During the bootcamp, participants received both theoretical and practical training in robotics, exploring new skills and opportunities in a constantly evolving field. This event is part of a broader Embassy initiative aimed at promoting gender equality in technological and creative areas, reaffirming its commitment to empowering young people and women in STEAM.

The workshops were designed by alumni Jeremy Losaw and Koral Núñez, who, along with industry professionals such as Alissa Sharpe and Sharon Jones, led the learning sessions. Personalized mentoring allowed participants to develop innovative projects with an interdisciplinary approach, strengthening both their technical skills and professional networks.

The closing ceremony featured representatives from the embassy and motivational remarks from Mr. Timothy Brown, Cultural Attaché.

This bootcamp represents a significant step towards a more inclusive and innovative future in the field of technology, where the active participation of women is essential.

Pedro Farías-Nardi reveals Cuba’s hidden devotion in the 11th edition of PhotoImagen.

The Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano, through its Cultural Department, has opened its doors to a moving exhibition that explores the spiritual richness and resilience of daily life in Cuba. Pedro Farías-Nardi, a renowned photographer and visual artist, presents his new show titled “Faith and Devotion” as part of the 11th edition of PhotoImagen. This exhibition invites a deep reflection on religious syncretism and the daily struggles of the Cuban people.

Inaugurated on September 4th, this exhibition provides an intimate window into the devotion of Cubans, captured through Farías-Nardi’s lens. His images not only reveal religious fervor but also challenge stereotypes and connect us with the stories of resistance and hope that emerge amidst adversity.

The exhibition will be open to the public until October 3rd and can be visited at the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano’s Exhibition Hall from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. Don’t miss the chance to explore these powerful photographs filled with culture, emotion, and struggle.
